07.19.2016 LIBN | Chocolate Works to open 7th LI store
By David Winzelberg

Chocolate Works is continuing its area expansion with a new location in Plainview.

The franchise signed a lease for a 1,444-square-foot store in the Plainview Shopping Center at 371 South Oyster Bay Road and plans to open this summer. The Plainview store will be the seventh Chocolate Works location on Long Island, the others are in Bellmore, Commack, Garden City, Manhasset, Rockville Centre and Stony Brook.

Chocolate Works evolved from a Manhattan confectioner called 5th Avenue Chocolatiere. When the Hershey Co. protested the use of the 5th Avenue brand, fearing confusion with its chocolate bar of the same name, co-founder Joe Whaley renamed the business Chocolate Works. The first Chocolate Works opened on Manhattan’s Upper West Side in 2012.

In addition to its extensive collection of chocolates, including its signature 5th Avenue Truffle and such eclectic offerings as chocolate martini olives and chili-infused chocolate nibs, Chocolate Works stores are stocked with bulk bins of classic candies and also offer children’s parties and chocolate-making workshops for children and adults.

The company continues to seek new franchisees and locations of 1,800 square feet to 2,500 square feet all around the New York metropolitan area. Chocolate Works is represented by Garden City-based Sabre Real Estate Group in its hunt for sites.

Sabre’s Melissa Naeder represented Chocolate Works in the Plainview lease, while Etan Shalem of Welco Realty represented landlord The Real Estate Equity Company.
