12.10.2014 LIBN | Tony Roma’s opening in Commack
By David Winzelberg
A new Tony Roma’s restaurant is opening in Commack on Thursday.
The 6,500-square-foot restaurant was built on a pad site in the Cosentino Commerce Center on Henry Street. Other tenants at the center include Target, Home Goods and Marshall’s.
This will be Tony Roma’s first return to Long Island after 25 years. The chain operated restaurants in Valley Stream and Syosset, but they subsequently closed. There are currently three Tony Roma’s restaurants in Queens and Brooklyn.
The Commack location seats 220 people and has 15 TVs situated throughout the dining room. There’s also an outdoor seating area that will open in the summer.
Long Island franchisees Steve and George Menexas are partners in the new Commack Tony Roma’s.
“We believe the energy created by the design of the restaurant and bar will make it an amazing place for the community to experience great food and beverages,” Tina Menexas, vice president of marketing and design for the franchisees, said in a written statement.
The first Tony Roma’s restaurant opened more than 40 years ago in North Miami, Fla. Now headquartered in Orlando, Fla., Romacorp, the parent company of the ribs specialist, has more than 150 restaurant locations in more than 30 countries.
Stu Fagen, of Sabre Real Estate Group in Garden City, arranged the lease with the landlord, Cosentino Realty Group, on behalf of Roma’s.
